The Fault code is C249F, OPERATING TIME OF COMPONENT A7/3 IS EXCEEDED (SBC HYDRAULIC UNIT).

The SBC system is an exremely advanced brake by wire independent braking system that monitors and controls the braking of each individual wheel.
It essentially makes sure that you stop safely and in a straight line.
The life of the system is measured by the number of times you hit the brake pedal and this is around 600,000 presses.
However, Mercedes in their infinite wisdom set the warning to change the unit at only 300,000 presses, i.e. at just half way through it's life. Mercedes were being extremely cautious by setting the warning light at 50% of it's life. They later changed this in 2009 to 75% as there were numerous complaints as a new unit costs around £1200 plus fitting plus VAT and the units were not faulty.
