Description

Our race winning, widely used Jaguar AJV8 Loom & ECU Setup.

This setup will truely allow starting and running the AJV8 literally in anything. A car, a boat, anything. Also now covers the Aston Martin 4.3 & 4.7 variants of the AJV8. Inlcuding full VVT control.

 

We started running the V8’s on the MaxxECU Race back in 2018 with our partners Swallows Racing. We’ve developed pretty much every different type of AJV8 possible, Supercharged or Normally aspirated. This specific kit, will fit the 4.2, or the 4.4. It does not cover the 4.0, due to the different ignition coils. This fits the later type. We will have a 4.0 option available Q4 26′

All of the connectors are genuine connectors, and crimped using professional grade crimping tools. You can run this engine using the S-Type Diesel gearbox using the Swallows Racing flywheel and clutch setup. Or, indeed you can run the ZF8HP. The Jaguar ZF 8-Speed Automatic gearbox. We’ve worked tirelessly to make this as seamless as it can be. We currently have the adaptor flexplate in the webshop, this will bolt up to the AJV8, and allow you to mount the 8HP Torque converter. The 8HP required is the 8HP70 from a 3.0D Jaguar XF circa 2015. These are widely available at a reasonable cost. We recommend Auto Reserve.

 

This loom comes with instructions on the cable routings around the engine. We have made the decision to not use the OEM throttle body. These can be troublesome even on the OEM cars. The Jaguar throttle body is expensive, and becoming more and more of a pain to get hold of. We decided upon the Bosch series of throttle bodies. It’s wired to plug into the 68mm Bosch throttle body.

 

The heart of the system is the new MaxxECU Race Gen 2!

 

Between Swallows Racing, and ourselves, we truly believe we’re offering the best available option to get one of these engines running perfectly, using the OEM sensors. Running fully sequentially, and indeed fly by wire, with knock control. As it came from the factory. We’re aware you can get lesser systems to run these engines. Mostly by treating them as a 4-cylinder, and doubling up injectors and coils. This was the ‘thing to do’ 20 years ago. We like to think we’ve moved on a little since then!

 

There are connectors for spare inputs and outputs near both the ECU, and on the engine. The one near the ECU has CAN connections, connections for the internal throttle pedal (Your choice of pedal), and a pair of digital inputs. These can be used for paddle shifters, or launch control etc. There is a 12-Way DT connector on the engine, ready for extra sensors. Oil pressure, temperature and so on.

 

This loom is constructed from Thinwall Automotive cable. It’s covered with heatshrink. The junctions are ATUM adhesive heat shrink. We supply two new connectors for the Coolant Temperature sensor, and the Air Temperature Sensor. All connectors, are labelled on yellow professionally printed heatshrink. This is covered in adhesive clear heatshrink.

 

The engine can run with throttle bodies, or the standard intake manifold for normally aspirated, or the Supercharged version. We will be able to log in and get the vehicle running for you online. We are able to provide base maps for most types of engine. We’ve tuned most varieties of these engines from a completely stock 4.2, to a wild Supercharged 750bhp race car. We have pushed these engines to the limits. We are widely considered the most prolific AJV8 tuners.

All of our packages come with a basemap to start and run the engine. We provide online help via Anydesk on initial startup. We can provide further tuning services either remotely, or at our tuning shop as required at further costs.

 

These packages are made to order generally. They can be upgraded (Spec44 – Concentric twist – DR25 etc) or modified to suit to an extent while being built. Please conntact me for any specific requirements or questions you may have. Looms are delivered within 6-Weeks of payment.

We've supplied and modified this Maxxecu LS harness to incorporate the 8HP gearbox connector, and BMW shifter, along with adding in a connector for the clients pieburg CWA200 water pump. 

The client has opted for the Maxxecu Fuse Box also, so we've modified the fuse box and connector to incorporate the water pump & gearbox.

This really should be a dead easy way of getting an LS with an 8HP up and running with very little hassle. 

This harness and ECU left today, ready to be slotted into, I believe a DAX kit car!

AJ16 - Maxxecu Race Gen2 with 8HP?! Right you lot AJ16 - Maxxecu Race Gen2 with 8HP?!

Right you lot, come on a connector fondling journey with me! 👀🫣🤣

One of the more in depth AJ16 harnesses we've built, the first one I've done using the Gen2 Race. Pretty much all of the V8 systems that go out the door are built on the Gen2, but generally we stick to the Race Gen1 for the AJ16.

This harness is provided ready to go into an XJS. It uses the OEM crank and Cam sensors including the pickups. I'm told there are still systems being sold where you have to hack this stuff about. This runs the OEM systems, and fully sequentially.

It has dual knock sensors for on board knock control.

Dual LSU5.2 wideband lambda control

Fly-By-Wire ready to go

Fuel temperature and pressure monitoring.

Oil pressure and temperature monitoring.

4L80E direct control ready

8HP control ready.

All the epic benefits of the Gen2 Race, including crazy internal logging storage, WiFi/Bluetooth loads of extra IO.

This loom and ECU will be able to develop with the car as things are upgraded and installed.

David's 4.2 8HP AJV8 Trialer. David's using our A David's 4.2 8HP AJV8 Trialer.

David's using our AJV8 package on his vehicle, the Maxxecu Race H20, along with a PDM20 to supply the power.

Quite often when cars turn up for the Dyno, there are things that go wrong. Things are missed. Jubilee clips fluid leaks and so on. Naturally often it's the first time these sorts of vehicles have been run up properly. So I do my best to work with it, and get the car thought he Dyno session.

This thing. Polar opposite. Everything was spot on ready to go. Absolute testament to David and his Dad. I mean, he does own a Jaguar Landrover specialist up near Milton Keynes, but still, I've seen all sorts over the years!

Mighty impressed was I! We worked through tuning the engine, and calibrating the 8HP through the Maxxecu to work how he wanted it for his chosen Motorsport. 

I think you'll agree, it looks and sounds awesome!

It's been a brutal few weeks, and some ridiculous It's been a brutal few weeks, and some ridiculous hours, and I apologise for my lack of updates. 

We've had harnesses & ECU packages ongoing in the background, plenty of packages off out the door, along with the workshop stuff.

This is Colin of Swallows Jaguar - Swallows Racing XJ40 race car.

We've given this the full works, a whole body harness built up to his racing regulations. An AIM PDM32 powering the whole deal. One of our off the shelf AJ16 Maxxecu Packages looking after the freshly built AJ16 engine. 

Colin has moved up a class this year, so is able to add in some limited modifications. We've taken advantage of those allowable, and wish him the best success.

The PDM32 from AIM is coupled with a 6" display, being able to view any of the data from the Maxxecu over CAN. Logging all values along with GPS data. All stored internally for review at a later date. Live lap times are displayed on the screen. 🕺

These boys take track days seriously! They've put a massive amount of work into getting this little weapon up to a high standard. Robert & his Dad Mark have been giving this thing an overhaul of late, adding in lots of goodies, upgrading things here and there to a high standard.

I'll upload a YouTube video about this weapon at some point! Sorry I've been slacking on my socials, busy as is always the way at this time of year, with a side order of being rough!

I rarely want to take clients cars out on the track, but this thing I imagine is an absolute hoot!

Apologies if you're waiting for a response from an email or whatever, I'm burning that midnight oil at the moment, a lovely little car in the workshop I'm building a harness for and then building 'postal harnesses' in the evenings, until often pretty late! So bare with me!

This is an AJ16 harness for a car coming soon, it's a turbocharged X300. 

The vehicle has been converted to fly-by-wire, the harness is pre-wired for this. It's also pre-wired for a boost control solenoid, dual knock control, oil temperature, oil pressure monitoring and safety strategies.

I've added EGT into this harness, along with added cables in for the OEM guages and alternator functions. This saves having to run any extra cables onto the engine, it keeps it all tidy.

Naturally added VAG coils on plug, as we've been doing for many years on the Jaguars. :-)

Brutal little R53 Race car from last week. Sprint Brutal little R53 Race car from last week.

Sprintex blown W11. Lots of interesting goodies, including GRS cooler, and Blow through throttle body setup, hence the noise!

In for a full electronics suite. AIM PDM32, 10" Screen, Maxxecu Race, and entire harness built up.

Maxxecu controlling the CWA200 water pump, pit lane limiter, lots of race related goodies, and making absolutely all the right noises.

This car is built by Adam from North Precision Engineering. There are so many billet alloys parts on this, it's nuts. The entire subframe is billet aluminium!

Lots more to go on it too, some Carbon goodies from the 611 Motorsport team soon too!

I'll pop a YouTube video up about the car and what we've done to it at some point in the future if I get time! I recorded some footage, like I tend to do, then do nothing with it as I can't be arsed to edit it! 🫣🤣🤣

More Maxxecu 8HP goodness. Jordan gave me a call More Maxxecu 8HP goodness.

Jordan gave me a call a little while ago after being led up the garden path somewhat with another ECU manufacturer, about 8HP control and the Maxxecu.  Jordan ended up purchasing a Maxxecu Race, along with flashing his 8HP70 at the same time. He also purchased a CAN keypad. 

He's had this fitted up to his N62 BMW engine powered 'Kirkland Proto' off road machine along with lots of other little extras.

We logged in remotely and fired her up, and got her moving under her own steam!

The Maxxecu is now calibrated, and in control of the engine fully, naturally running all the OEM pickups and sensors on the VANOS. His cooling packages are controlled by the ECU, along with various other coop little bits and pieces.

The keypad is programmed to the different drive modes, P,D,N,R all lit up requested with 'Yellow', as the background colour! 👌🤣 Sport mode and manual shift available from the push/pull shifter.

Shift torque reduction as required and auto throttle blip calibrated in higher rpm and gears keeping the shifting slick! 

I look forward to hearing how he gets on at his first event!

Uncle spikes been busy with his MK1 Fiesta, the radiator is in the back of this old girl, and we wanted to use Aeroquip hose all over it. So some AN20 lines now run under the vehicle, between the engine and the radiator / CWA200 at the rear. Naturally, Ford didn't install AN lines, so Uncle Spike designed some billet bits and pieces to ensure everything is staying cool, and more importantly, Dry! 🤣🙏

 @noathprecision  over in Exeter turned the jobs around in the usual high speed, high quality affair! Thanks lads!

Loads of other bits and pieces been done, some painting here and there, the billet inlet has been attached properly, and the extra PI injectors fitted. 

Next up, turbo & manifold. I've convinced him we need the G series turbo. We've just got to decide on exactly 'which' G series turbo!

I'll update here when more progress has been made, as he's just darned useless with socials. It's an age thing I think, he's a few years older than me, and it makes all the difference. 😁🫣

The harness install in the TU5J4 Peugeot 106 from The harness install in the TU5J4 Peugeot 106 from last week.

I'm always posting a little video or a picture of a harness I've made on my bench upstairs in my little loft, but I realise I often don't post picures of one fitted!

Well, there you are! One of my harnesses all fitted up in this little 106. 

This harness is built from Automotive thinwall cable, and sheathed in a TE heat shrunk braid made of PET and polyolefin filament. Offering high wear resistance and heat proof to 125 degrees C.  High quality ATUM adhesive shrink at junctions.

In this case each connector is colour coded where relevant, and also has yellow heat shrunk 'idents', with adhesive heatshrink protecting these.

All OEM sensors on the engine connected and instrument cluster fully functional, including the OEM digital speedometer, tacho, oil temp, water temp etc. The EML light works as an EML light, but also doubles up as the shift light, keeping things clean and simple inside. 

A nice little tidy solution for this car. Keeping costs at a sensible level (we don't always need a full motorsport concentric loom), but also providing lots of functionality and ease of use in the future.

MaxxECU Street mounted on AV mounts to the bulkhead on the inside of the vehicle. Interconnects made at OEM connector on the inner chassis leg.

Customer supplied VAG coils and Bosch injectors to go with his TITAN Roller bodies.

We've done soany of these little TU5J4 over the years on various platforms, I do love working the Maxxecu onto them though. 

I hate the way the industry uses the word 'full'. I don't get it at all 'full ecu', 'full suspension package'. I mean, what's half full? Half a suspension package, half an ECU package? I know I'm old (6, 7) but, regardless,

'Full' engine harness, to include guage wiring for later instrument cluster fitment, integrated via the OEM circular chassis leg connector. Clean, OEM feels to the harness as requested.  No half assed plugin effort taped to the battery!

Running Titan roller throttle bodies, and a set of Newman cams, the Maxxecu Street pulls it all together beautifully. Naturally the ECU is fully featured, on board logging, onboard wideband, lots of safety features. 

Cracking little track car weighing in at less than my last fry up.

Escort Cosworth Fuse Box Refurb. I've not posted Escort Cosworth Fuse Box Refurb.

I've not posted about one of these for a long time. I've been repairing these things for many years now, and we still see them quite regularly even now. We've done four in the last couple of months.

It potentially looks a little daunting on the face of it looking at the photo. But rest assured, it's 90's tech. There's no crazy electronics inside these like modern days cars. It's old school, current carrying copper!

Naturally though, they can be a pain in the ass. 

I made up some test sheets many years ago, that I now have as excel sheets. Pretty much my go-to software!

I load test the standard failure circuits initially, and then decide if I'm going to need to strip it down and split the boards. 

This one had a tell-tale external wire soldered in around the fuel pump relay to the fuse! Standard 'get you home'. mod that stays there for ten years! 🤣

I discovered a couple of other oddities, but nothing that required major work.

Popped the old girl into the ultrasonic cleaner, and made repairs where required. I then reflowed every joint, popped it back in the cleaner and retested.

Happy to say it passed, and back to the customer.

Not the most exciting job honestly, but it keeps our old favourites on the road right! 👌

Straight back into it! Harness for an epic Discove Straight back into it! Harness for an epic Discovery 2, heading off to Australia!

Joe have me a call last year and we were chatting about building a harness for his Discovery 2 4.4 AJV8 project he was building. We were chatting about him putting the 8HP gearbox into this beasty, and the phone signal went a bit 90's. He apologised, as he was in the Ocean just off Perth. 

Perth?!

Right.

Long story short, I built this harness up for him to run the 4.4 AJV8, as fitted to the Range Rover L322, mated up to the 8HP gearbox and the Epic MaxxECU Race Gen2. 

And he 'popped over' to collect it and take it home in hand luggage! You Aussies are absolutely insane! 

I ordered from E-Bay an old Discovery 2 instrument cluster so that I could integrate the cluster for him. I've created some really basic tables that emulate the exact same behaviour as the OEM would have. Essentially an easy task here, but potentially drama from the opposite side of the planet! LOL!

Without a doubt the furthest I've sent a harness, and Joe came through the door all smiles! Brought us over a Plush Wombat and some Aussie 'Road Signs' for the kids. The guy even offered to put us up if ever we wanted to go over there!  I mean, what a gent!

I'd not been looking forward to going back to work after the break honestly, but I've not met such an upbeat guy for ages! Maybe us Brits are just grumpy?!

Regardless, thanks Joe, absolute legend, and I look forward to working with you some more in the future. :-)

BMW X5 X40D -> GM LQ9/LS conversion. Maxxecu / Or BMW X5 X40D -> GM LQ9/LS conversion.

Maxxecu / Original 8HP gearbox. 

All CAN-BUS satisfied. Gauges working and so on. Rad fans/shutters as per OEM. 

Zero wires cut, Maxxecu in OEM location using adaptor!

Uncle Spike up next to sort the induction kit & make some tidy mounts for the 8HP shifter. Then on the Dyno. Great work Dave for getting all the mechanicals working together nicely!

Maxxecu Race LS harness, one of two harnesses leaving today. We've supplied and modified this Maxxecu LS harness to incorporate the 8HP gearbox connector, and BMW shifter, along with adding in a connector for the clients pieburg CWA200 water pump. The client has opted for the Maxxecu Fuse Box also, so we've modified the fuse box and connector to incorporate the water pump & gearbox.This really should be a dead easy way of getting an LS with an 8HP up and running with very little hassle. AJ16 - Maxxecu Race Gen2 with 8HP?!Right you lot, come on a connector fondling journey with me! 👀🫣🤣One of the more in depth AJ16 harnesses we've built, the first AJ16 harness I've done using the Gen2 Race. Pretty much all of the V8 systems that go out the door are built on the Gen2, but generally we stick to the Race Gen1 for the AJ16.This harness is provided ready to go into an XJS. It uses the OEM crank and Cam sensors including the pickups. I'm told there are still systems being sold where you have to hack this stuff about 🤣🫣. This runs the OEM systems, and fully sequentially.It has dual knock sensors for on board knock control.Dual LSU5.2 wideband lambda controlFly-By-Wire ready to goFuel temperature and pressure monitoring.Oil pressure and temperature monitoring.4L80E direct control ready8HP control ready.All the epic benefits of the Gen2 Race, including crazy internal logging storage, WiFi/Bluetooth loads of extra IO.This loom and ECU will be able to develop with the car as things are upgraded and installed.We started fitting the Maxxecu to Jaguars about 7-8 years ago. We install now nothing but the Maxxecu. David's 4.2 8HP AJV8 Trialer.David's using our AJV8 package on his vehicle, the Maxxecu Race H20, along with a PDM20 to supply the power.Quite often when cars turn up for the Dyno, there are things that go wrong. Things are missed. Jubilee clips fluid leaks and so on. Naturally often it's the first time these sorts of vehicles have been run up properly. So I do my best to work with it, and get the car thought he Dyno session.This thing. Polar opposite. Everything was spot on ready to go. Absolute testament to David and his Dad. I mean, he does own a Jaguar Landrover specialist up near Milton Keynes, but still, I've seen all sorts over the years!Mighty impressed was I! We worked through tuning the engine, and calibrating the 8HP through the Maxxecu to work how he wanted it for his chosen Motorsport.
