Description

The Volvo C30 T5 P&P Conversion is something we built and configured a few years ago.

 

This is an ongoing project, that gets development whenever we get a vehicle in for tuning / configuration.

 

At the heart of our system is the incredibly powerful MaxxECU Race H2O: https://www.p-v-e.co.uk/product/maxxecu-race-h2o-ecu-only/

 

Working Systems

We have the vehicle functioning and working as it should. It starts and runs on the normal key arrangement. The fuel pump works correctly VIA PWM control within a table in the ECU. Sequential fuel injection all working. Sequential ignition all working. Both VVT’s working and functioning correctly. Boost control functioning and working correctly. Use of the original Wideband Lambda sensor working correctly.

 

Fuel Gauge, Speedometer, Temperature Gauge, Tachometer working correctly.

 

All wheel speeds are defined within CAN, so traction control should be able to be programmed by the end user no problems.

 

DTC Button on stalk defined within the CAN system.

 

Steering wheel buttons defined within the CAN system, to be used as whatever they are programmed for.

 

MIL defined and working as it should.

 

Air Conditioning now working as it should, and tuneable within the ECU.

 

Traction control system defined and working, able to tune this within the ECU software. Traction control disabled using the OEM stalk.

 

Base map provided, along with 1hr of Remote Access to get the vehicle up and running. As with all these vehicles, we recomend dyno tuning, we provide a base map only. Tuning can be done here, or by any tuner, ideally familiar with MaxxECU.

 

Fully tuneable MaxxECU race software M-Tune. All tuning parameters unlocked and able to be modified. CAN protocol LOCKED to the ECU serial.

The harness we sell is a custom link harness between the ECU and the OEM connector. These are different to the Focus ST/RS ones as the pinout is different. The ECU will need to be mounted elsewhere, behind the battery or otherwise. Or the OEM airbox will need to  be  modified to fit the harness and the MaxxECU inside. Both have been done and look great. There are extra connectors on the harness for EGT & extra I/O for connection at your discression.

You will recieve updates to the ECU protocol as and when I update them. Please bare in mind, this may be months/years. If you are not happy with it’s current incarnation, please don’t purchase. That said, the negatives are very few:

 

Work to be completed on the project:

 

Well, the vehicle is able to start and run of course. We need to make a small modification to the Starter Relay on the CEM, a plug in piece of cable essentially. The reason for this is I can’t work around the Immobiliser at this point. So we run a bypass. This does leave an ‘Immobiliser’ message on the dash also. A buttonpush on the stalk removes this of course.

 

I’ve not worked on the Cruise Control properly either. So as a feature, this is not working presently, and I’d need to get a car in with one fitted, to test finish this up. The cruise control issue, will be able to be rectified, but I need to actually resolve this with a car. This will be completed, but I don’t know when.

 

The Immobiliser bypass, and message on the screen. I think may be something we’d have to live with frankly. It’s an extremely awkward thing to work around within the confines of what I have control of within the ECU.

 

I currently build these to order. It’s not something we sell many of naturally. We normally suggest a 6-week lead time from point of sale, to the system at your door.

Kens E36, purchased as a 328i, then upgraded to a very high specification. S54 conversion, LSD, Carbon Air ox lots of details and upgrades everywhere!

Booked in for us for a couple bits of wiring and to Boot the CSL flash onto the original MS54HP. EWS delete along with a few relevant changes due to a manual transmission change. Cam offset modification for OEM cams.

A quick run up on the Dyno for confirmation. 

Lots of induction noise, so naturally I popped the camera up for the noises!

1968 Camero with a Supercharged LS3 on Maxxecu Rac 1968 Camero with a Supercharged LS3 on Maxxecu Race,

Dave's a well known local car builder. Specialising in the American market. Historically, Dave can be found at Santa pod pulling quarter mile runs in this 1300bhp Camero.

It's recently been undergoing a conversion to make it into more of a 'Street Car'. This has involved some serious modification. Some serious upgrades. It's got modern power steering, a modern Z06 corvette independent rear axle. Air conditioning, a modern power steering system. 🤩

The engine is a nice new LS3, with the Magnuson Superchargers bolt on package.

Running the Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB  Race ECU and LS harness package,  Dave got the car up and running himself, and we managed to finish the job off on the Dyno.

Good healthy numbers, and a fantastic torque curve you could put a ruler on!

We've boarded out our 'fast moving looms', Cosworth YB, AJ16, AJV8, K20A2 etc. All can be customised to an extent. This loom is going out for use with the stock distributer & coil. But many customers opt for the Coil On Plug option. This customer has opted for printed labels.

The loom is braided with Vidaflex® Monofil PE, this offers very good mechanical strength and also provide excellent resistance to salt water, oil, fuels and solvents. It is self-extinguishing and operates at temperatures within the range of – 70°C to +150°C. The junctions are adhesive heat shrunk and all applicable connectors are booted. Aux connectors on engine, aux connectors near ECU. Aux connectors in Deutch DT & DTM.

Full support with all packages & ECUs sold. We provide Teamviewer time and phone support to get your engine up and running. :-)

MaxxECU Street at the heart of this package. It's hard to think of a better specced ECU for the money than the MaxxECU Street frankly.

Marks X-Type new race car build. The first one on his grid to run the AJ30, so he wanted to make a decent job of it.

Naturally the Maxxecu Race along with the AIM MTX Strada would fit the bill. 

The Maxxecu is now configured to run the fly-by-wire, both inlet flaps, both VVT banks, sequential fuel injection and ignition. Knock control on both banks. Closed loop wideband with lean protection on both banks. Fuel pressure monitoring, and included in the fuel model. Oil pressure monitoring with shut down protection. On board logging up to 1000hz. Breath... One little box does the lot!

Dave from 611 Motorsport made his familiar journey down from Manchester last week with Steve's little Mini.

Dave has been building the car from a shell that Steve has supplied, and moved lots of bits and pieces over from his old build. Lots of new 611 Motorsport suspension bits and pieces along with some nice upgrades.

Look forward to seeing Steve out at Caldwell Park for the first round of Time Attack.

Kevin's epic Supercharged Mustang, following an engine rebuild, he decidded to get the calibration checked out.

We initially did some logging, and ran it on the Dyno to find lots of knock, and some lean conditions. 

We made the decision to modify the calibration accordingly, based on the logs. The ECU was encrypted. Naturally. Fortunately, I have some real good friends in the industry. Massive shout out to Kenny from Motorsport Developments LTD for using my Bench read to decrypt the lock, allowing me to tune it normally via HPTuners. 

At this point my HP Tuners  software decided it needed to update it's VCM firmware, and bricked itself beyond repair, naturally. So my my next shout out goes to Dave at MET & Metclean Automotive Equipment who lent me his HPTuners VCM for the day. I sent the wife up to collect it. 

What a day. 😂😂

Ultimately ended up with a happy customer and 730 safer BHP's.

But behold, the glorious noise of the supercharged 5.0 V8. 🔥🥳

Rick's Jaguar XJ. Sporting one of our AJ16 ECU & Loom packages, coupled with an AIM PDM08, and the Swallows M118 kit. 

We move the throttle bodies on the supercharged race cars wherever possible. It allows insane throttle response, and allows us to use tried and tested front mount intercoolers. It took some real time getting it all to work nicely though initially. Consistent power delivery is maintained through a whole race using this system though. 

We look forward to seeing rick out on this beast this year, race season is well upon us now!

Keeping it sensible at a bar of boost for now. When I say sensible, that's still 320whp on the built motor!

Spooled to a bar by 3800rpm, and making power all the way to 8500.

Marks Westfield powered by a late Fireblade Engine Marks Westfield powered by a late Fireblade Engine running MaxxECU Race, all the way from sunny Blackpool. 

Nice little story to this little car. A dream envisioned by Simon, and ultimately completed by Mark.

A few years ago Simon got in contact, as he had a lovely little Westy that he wanted to fit a late Fireblade engine into. He wanted to run the Fly-By-Wire system as fitted by Honda. He sent the throttle bodies down for me to have a play with. Once we were confident we could run it, he booked it in.

We ended up building a whole vehicle loom. Running the absolutely epic MaxxECU Race, coupled with a PDM20 and at the time and AIM MXS.

We got the car up and running and got some tuning done on it, with a view to finish up a few bits and pieces in the future. Wheel speeds, quick shift etc etc.

Simon then got the horn for some Wheel-to-wheel action, that I've been following. He's been doing really well, and now moving up into the BMW series.

Ultimately, the car got sold to Mark.

Mark has 'made it his own'. There is lots of carbon fibre, a colour change, and come more class upgrades. Including an air quick shifter now mounted into the 'passengers seat'! He's also upgraded to the genuinely amazing AIM steering wheel with integrated screen.

Mark came down from Blackpool, baring cake! I was all in at this point!

We did a little tuning, and did some messing about with the secondary injector setup, and a bit of calibration i the VE & ignition tables to get her absolutely clean. We then set about the fun stuff, some throttle blip on downshifts, and some ignition cut on upshifts. 

Launch control activated by the blink marine 12-Way keypad, and a high idle on another button (This is a factory race engine with a tiny stator that doesn't charge until 3200rpm!)

Cake & Coffee were consumed in one end, and BHP's came out the other! :-)

Every now and again, something comes through the door that makes you sot back, and just appreciate the level of work that's gone into a project. This, was indeed one of those times.

Chris has owned this for many many years, and I can tell you he treats it like a old friend!

A built Cosworth YB, twin Scroll Borg Warner, Maxxecu Sport ECU running fly-by-wire.

Attention to detail everywhere, an epic, epic build. 

We made some mapping adjustments, and ended up with 375whp. 

We also wired his Corsa power steering module to the ECU. This allows the power steering to get lighter/heavier based on wheel speed and engine rpm. In a behaviour that mimics an OEM car. Naturally all programmed via the ECU.

Great car, great power, great build. Thanks for bringing it down Chris. :-)

Had a great day chilling at Castle Combe Circuit o Had a great day chilling at Castle Combe Circuit on Friday with a few of the guys. Thanks to Slip&Grip Automotive for another great track day.

It was nice to test a few bits and pieces I've modified on the car. Mostly steering and cooling. Now running a Mégane MK4 column, driven with custom CAN by the Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB  Pro.

Thanks for the photos @mrprezzas you caught the fire perfectly!

Some good banter to be had. Nice to see @matt_urchfab changing spark plugs like a Pro! His little Mini will be a weapon!

We had to short shift to keep the noise down, but ultimately a successful day. Everything worked, and worked well.

Yes, I know the fire is childish. But I'm childish. It's a race car. It's turned up to 11. Yes sir.

Aston Martin Lagonda for MaxxECU Race & Harness,I hope everyone is enjoying their half term, and ensuring the kids are entertained at all times! 🙃We were honoured enough to be able to build an engine harness for this Aston Martin Lagonda. It runs the 5.3 V8 Engine with some downdraft Jenveys! Running now using the Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB Race, twin wideband lambda, added in idle bypass valves and all the trimmings in replacement of the old setup that ran roughly, and would struggle to start!It's an absolutely classic 1970s design, that's so bloody ugly, it's beautiful! I absolutely love it! I love the off the wall projects that make you have to work for it. I'd hate to be doing the same car/engine over and over!Massive thanks to Richard at MTX Motors for getting us involved in this epic project.The craziest bit about this project? It's in Hong Kong.Richard drew up exactly what he wanted and sent me some drawings. I built him a harness and shipped it over. I sent over a base map, then using the MaxxECU on board logging facilities, we mapped it on the road, from the other side of the planet! The only constraint has been the time difference. Often I've been in bed late at night, tuning a car in Hong Kong!Some Lagonda facts for fun:Throughout the history of the marque, the hand-built Lagonda was amongst the most expensive luxury saloons in the worldThe Lagonda was the first production car to use a digital instrument panel. Some nice silverware coming from Cadwell Park today!Jack Robinson pulling off a perfect points for the second time this season. Fastest Lap, Class Win, and overall Win, and Tom Robinson hot on his tail with his own class wins, and places on the podium in both races, in a fairly standard XJS. I reckon you could put these boys in wheelie bins and they'd still podium! Glad to see their hard work is paying dividends. Jack managing to get his V8 XK8 into the 1.38. We've loomed & tuned both of these cars, obviously running Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB Well done to Swallows Jaguar - Swallows Racing Some great positive news from one of our sponsored cars this year too! Charlie Ford managed to break his gearbox in Qualifying. After lots of work to his fiesta, including a forged Duratec we've recently tuned for him on Link ECU . He managed to find another gearbox albeit without an LSD, and fit it in the paddock! YB Cosworth ECU & Loom package off out the door this morning!We've boarded out our 'fast moving looms', Cosworth YB, AJ16, AJV8, K20A2 etc. All can be customised to an extent. This loom is going out for use with the stock distributer & coil. But many customers opt for the Coil On Plug option. This customer has opted for printed labels.The loom is braided with Vidaflex® Monofil PE, this offers very good mechanical strength and also provide excellent resistance to salt water, oil, fuels and solvents. It is self-extinguishing and operates at temperatures within the range of – 70°C to +150°C. The junctions are adhesive heat shrunk and all applicable connectors are booted. Aux connectors on engine, aux connectors near ECU. Aux connectors in Deutsch DT & DTM.Full support with all packages & ECUs sold. We provide Teamviewer time and phone support to get your engine up and running. :-)MaxxECU Street at the heart of this package.
