Julian's 20v Fiat Coupé on Maxxecu Race.Julian Julian's 20v Fiat Coupé on Maxxecu Race.Julian travelled down from Nottingham with his 20v Fiat Coupé. It's been an ongoing project for him for a few years. It's had a fully forged engine, with lots of bolt on goodies, and an EFR6758 Turbo. We were aiming to crack the 400bhp mark, with around 1.7-1.8bar of boost.Our first run on the Dyno immediately showed some issues. 100% duty cycle on the boost control solenoid, along with a 'lethargic' boost curve. 280bjp at 1.5 bar peak. The power curve absolutely fell off a cliff by 5750rpm. Ok, weve got some work to do here!After some diagnosis, we discovered the DV had accidentally been plumbed incorrectly, bypassing air. A quick Dyno fudge plumbing job sorted that, and we were able to get on with the job in hand. Calibrate the ECU!We ended up with 367bhp, as we've got some potential fuel demand issues.But a 4 year trek for Julian somewhere nearing now where it should be.Lovely looking car that Julian imported from Japan. I logged on via TeamViewer and did a startup with him after he'd finished wiring it up.A few extra sensors here and there for fuel pressure, oil pressure and the like Some VW COP and some new injectors add to the mix.The E30 Touring has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, even before they were cool, and just old snot you'd buy cheap from from the 'yellow paper'! I've had the busiest last few weeks we've ever had. Long days is a bit of an understatement, 3am 'last night' replacing a Turbocharger on an RS3. Back up early on the Dyno ready for Mark, who's travelled from Derby to see us. Thank you guys for the trust. 🤩🤩This little beauty is Tim's EP3. A long term track car that's had many guises along the way. He's recently fitted a set of throttle bodies, and has been communicating with us about the ECU requirements. There are a few options out there, even some plugins nowadays. He'd already purchase himself a 'budget' replacement engine harness as his original had been cut about and messed with. We decided a Maxxecu Race would be the best option. Knock control, lots of additional I/O, onboard datalogging etc.. One of the best bits about the Maxxecu is being able to map the K20 in the same manner as the OEM ECU. Multiple VE tables & ignition tables, that interpolate based on cam angle. It saves having to modify the tables every time you demand a different cam angle. Charlie's cracking little R53.In for tuning on t Charlie's cracking little R53.In for tuning on the OEM ECU, 469, 550's, Airtec. Charlie's built this engine with his father, as the old one had a cracked cylinder head. The R53 does seem to suffer with this in fairness. They crack near the spark plug hole.It's great that he's built the engine with his dad. I'm pleased that this sort of work can be handed down from generation to generation. I sometimes feel that this sort of 'dirty' skill is almost looked down upon these days.A 'mechanic', in these modern times, needs to be a million things. An engineer, an electrician, a plumber, an admin clerk, a telepath! I imagine it was an enjoyable experience for father and son, and I respect it massively. AJ6 Jaguar XJS, loomed & tuned!Swallows Jaguar - AJ6 Jaguar XJS, loomed & tuned!Swallows Jaguar - Swallows Racing new 'race rental' Jaaaaag. MaxxECU Street fitted with one of my off the shelf AJ16 looms. Some small mods to the AJ6, namely front pulley and cam position sensor from an AJ16, allow us to run the AJ6 beautifully. Naturally fully sequential. Upgraded COP to the easily obtained VAG units. (Yes I dislike the red ones too, I'd planned on black coils)! Commonly used modern Bosch injectors also added at the same time. Mostly these things are added for reliability. Some of the old Jag stuff is 30+ years old, and getting more and more scarce. Replacing these with modern equivalents makes perfect sense. The on board wideband keeps the fuelling in check, and also some great information for the on board logging (up to 1000hz you know!). Oil pressure, and oil temperature also added into the mix. All of this data is transmitted over CAN to the newly fitted Aim Technologies PDM08, and 10" screen. A quick tune using one of my basemaps for the AJ6 on the Dyno, and she's ready to compete!A great little race car being tested soon before it's first race in future classics. Fully forged T5, and now with added AWD.At the heart of this conversion is the Maxxecu Race of course! Not only controlling the engine perfectly, with various boost Maps accessible from the OEM steering wheel. It's working all the OEM guages, the OEM Air conditioning, the traction control using information from the OEM ABS module, but now controlling Sam's Volvo Haldex module too. Using wheel slip data, tps data and vehicle speed data, it will determine the AWD characteristics.Sam's properly worked hard on this car, fully forged T5 engine, custom manifolds, custom work everywhere. Raised, no Aero kit, and no R56 rear splitter. 😍😁Jack brought his little Rallycross Mini over for us to dial in his 469 & 550cc injectors. He also, got his gran to make Pasties. He arrived, with 6 hot proper Cornish home made pasties. I went the extra mile for this guy! 😍We ran the vehicle up, 6psi of boost. Amazing. Crack out the smoke machine to find a cheeky split on the intercooler boot. A full 'dyno fudge' later involving some tape, and some glue, and we're golden!Jack also got his other half to make Chocolate cake to bring. This guy's trying to butter me up. A glorious MK1 Golf 20v on Maxxecu Sport.Another A glorious MK1 Golf 20v on Maxxecu Sport.Another exceptionally well prepared MK1 GTi. Mark has owned this gem for 30 years, and has performed all of the modifications himself. Lots of 20v goodies!We actually tuned this a couple of years ago, but we ran out of injector essentially.Mark booked it back in to have some bigger injectors fitted, along with some mods to allow the Maxxecu to run 'Boost By Gear', and modify his Corsa power steering setup to be driven also by the Maxxecu.We used the pickup on his instrument cluster to provide the VSS signal straight to the ECU. We calibrated the speed output against the Dyno. We then used the Maxxecu functions to calibrate each gear ratio. In this case, we used a 4D table for all gears on the boost demand table. We used the same VSS input to replicate the original Corsa ECU, to send the PAS module the correct signals for both speed, and indeed RPM. Both sent via frequency outputs on our GPO outputs.A quick couple of hours on the Dyno to verify the fuelling, and add a little more boost. Marks Westfield powered by a late Fireblade Engine Marks Westfield powered by a late Fireblade Engine running MaxxECU Race, all the way from sunny Blackpool. Nice little story to this little car. A dream envisioned by Simon, and ultimately completed by Mark. A few years ago Simon got in contact, as he had a lovely little Westy that he wanted to fit a late Fireblade engine into. He wanted to run the Fly-By-Wire system as fitted by Honda. He sent the throttle bodies down for me to have a play with. Once we were confident we could run it, he booked it in. We ended up building a whole vehicle loom. Running the absolutely epic MaxxECU Race, coupled with a PDM20 and at the time and AIM MXS. We got the car up and running and got some tuning done on it, with a view to finish up a few bits and pieces in the future. Wheel speeds, quick shift etc etc. Simon then got the horn for some Wheel-to-wheel action, that I've been following. He's been doing really well, and now moving up into the BMW series. Ultimately, the car got sold to Mark. Mark has 'made it his own'. There is lots of carbon fibre, a colour change, and come more class upgrades. Including an air quick shifter now mounted into the 'passengers seat'! He's also upgraded to the genuinely amazing AIM steering wheel with integrated screen. Mark came down from Blackpool, baring cake! I was all in at this point! We did a little tuning, and did some messing about with the secondary injector setup, and a bit of calibration i the VE & ignition tables to get her absolutely clean. We then set about the fun stuff, some throttle blip on downshifts, and some ignition cut on upshifts. Launch control activated by the blink marine 12-Way keypad, and a high idle on another button (This is a factory race engine with a tiny stator that doesn't charge until 3200rpm!) Every now and again, something comes through the door that makes you sot back, and just appreciate the level of work that's gone into a project. This, was indeed one of those times. Chris has owned this for many many years, and I can tell you he treats it like a old friend! A built Cosworth YB, twin Scroll Borg Warner, Maxxecu Sport ECU running fly-by-wire. Attention to detail everywhere, an epic, epic build. We made some mapping adjustments, and ended up with 375whp. We also wired his Corsa power steering module to the ECU. This allows the power steering to get lighter/heavier based on wheel speed and engine rpm. In a behaviour that mimics an OEM car. Naturally all programmed via the ECU. Great car, great power, great build. It's been an ongoing project for him for a few years. It's had a fully forged engine, with lots of bolt on goodies, and an EFR6758 Turbo. We were aiming to crack the 400bhp mark, with around 1.7-1.8bar of boost. Our first run on the Dyno immediately showed some issues. 100% duty cycle on the boost control solenoid, along with a 'lethargic' boost curve. 280bjp at 1.5 bar peak. The power curve absolutely fell off a cliff by 5750rpm. Ok, weve got some work to do here! After some diagnosis, we discovered the DV had accidentally been plumbed incorrectly, bypassing air. A quick Dyno fudge plumbing job sorted that, and we were able to get on with the job in hand. Calibrate the ECU! We ended up with 367bhp, as we've got some potential fuel demand issues. I've had the busiest last few weeks we've ever had. Long days is a bit of an understatement, 3am 'last night' replacing a Turbocharger on an RS3. Back up early on the Dyno ready for Mark, who's travelled from Derby to see us. Thank you guys for the trust. 🤩🤩 This little beauty is Tim's EP3. A long term track car that's had many guises along the way. He's recently fitted a set of throttle bodies, and has been communicating with us about the ECU requirements. There are a few options out there, even some plugins nowadays. He'd already purchase himself a 'budget' replacement engine harness as his original had been cut about and messed with. We decided a Maxxecu Race would be the best option. Knock control, lots of additional I/O, onboard datalogging etc.. One of the best bits about the Maxxecu is being able to map the K20 in the same manner as the OEM ECU. Multiple VE tables & ignition tables, that interpolate based on cam angle. It saves having to modify the tables every time you demand a different cam angle. Just like Honda did it! Charlie's built this engine with his father, as the old one had a cracked cylinder head. The R53 does seem to suffer with this in fairness. They crack near the spark plug hole. It's great that he's built the engine with his dad. I'm pleased that this sort of work can be handed down from generation to generation. I sometimes feel that this sort of 'dirty' skill is almost looked down upon these days. A 'mechanic', in these modern times, needs to be a million things. An engineer, an electrician, a plumber, an admin clerk, a telepath! I imagine it was an enjoyable experience for father and son, and I respect it massively. AJ6 Jaguar XJS, loomed & tuned! Swallows Jaguar - AJ6 Jaguar XJS, loomed & tuned! Swallows Jaguar - Swallows Racing new 'race rental' Jaaaaag. MaxxECU Street fitted with one of my off the shelf AJ16 looms. Some small mods to the AJ6, namely front pulley and cam position sensor from an AJ16, allow us to run the AJ6 beautifully. Naturally fully sequential. Upgraded COP to the easily obtained VAG units. (Yes I dislike the red ones too, I'd planned on black coils)! Commonly used modern Bosch injectors also added at the same time. Mostly these things are added for reliability. Some of the old Jag stuff is 30+ years old, and getting more and more scarce. Replacing these with modern equivalents makes perfect sense. The on board wideband keeps the fuelling in check, and also some great information for the on board logging (up to 1000hz you know!). Oil pressure, and oil temperature also added into the mix. All of this data is transmitted over CAN to the newly fitted Aim Technologies PDM08, and 10" screen. A quick tune using one of my basemaps for the AJ6 on the Dyno, and she's ready to compete! A great little race car being tested soon before it's first race in future classics. At the heart of this conversion is the Maxxecu Race of course! Not only controlling the engine perfectly, with various boost Maps accessible from the OEM steering wheel. It's working all the OEM guages, the OEM Air conditioning, the traction control using information from the OEM ABS module, but now controlling Sam's Volvo Haldex module too. Using wheel slip data, tps data and vehicle speed data, it will determine the AWD characteristics. A glorious MK1 Golf 20v on Maxxecu Sport. Another A glorious MK1 Golf 20v on Maxxecu Sport. Another exceptionally well prepared MK1 GTi. Mark has owned this gem for 30 years, and has performed all of the modifications himself. Lots of 20v goodies! We actually tuned this a couple of years ago, but we ran out of injector essentially. Mark booked it back in to have some bigger injectors fitted, along with some mods to allow the Maxxecu to run 'Boost By Gear', and modify his Corsa power steering setup to be driven also by the Maxxecu. We used the pickup on his instrument cluster to provide the VSS signal straight to the ECU. We calibrated the speed output against the Dyno. We then used the Maxxecu functions to calibrate each gear ratio. In this case, we used a 4D table for all gears on the boost demand table. We used the same VSS input to replicate the original Corsa ECU, to send the PAS module the correct signals for both speed, and indeed RPM. Both sent via frequency outputs on our GPO outputs. A quick couple of hours on the Dyno to verify the fuelling, and add a little more boost. Cracking little car, thanks Mark for letting us help you along the way with it. Marks Westfield powered by an Fireblade Engine running MaxxECU Race, all the way from sunny Blackpool. Nice little story to this little car. A dream envisioned by Simon, and ultimately completed by Mark.A few years ago Simon got in contact, as he had a lovely little Westy that he wanted to fit a late Fireblade engine into. He wanted to run the Fly-By-Wire system as fitted by Honda. He sent the throttle bodies down for me to have a play with. Once we were confident we could run it, he booked it in.We ended up building a whole vehicle loom. Running the absolutely epic MaxxECU Race, coupled with a PDM20 and at the time and AIM MXS.We got the car up and running and got some tuning done on it, with a view to finish up a few bits and pieces in the future. Wheel speeds, quick shift etc etc.Simon then got the horn for some Wheel-to-wheel action, that I've been following. He's been doing really well, and now moving up into the BMW series.Ultimately, the car got sold to Mark.Mark has 'made it his own'. There is lots of carbon fibre, a colour change, and come more class upgrades. Including an air quick shifter now mounted into the 'passengers seat'! He's also upgraded to the genuinely amazing AIM steering wheel with integrated screen.Mark came down from Blackpool, baring cake! I was all in at this point!We did a little tuning, and did some messing about with the secondary injector setup, and a bit of calibration i the VE & ignition tables to get her absolutely clean. We then set about the fun stuff, some throttle blip on downshifts, and some ignition cut on upshifts. Launch control activated by the blink marine 12-Way keypad, and a high idle on another button (This is a factory race engine with a tiny stator that doesn't charge until 3200rpm!)Cake & Coffee were consumed in one end, and BHP's came out the other! :-)Good luck at the weekend Mark, pleasure to meet you.And yes. YB powered MK2 escort on Maxxecu Sport.Every now and again, something comes through the door that makes you sit back, and just appreciate the level of work that's gone into the project. This, was indeed one of those times.Chris has owned this for many many years, and I can tell you he treats it like an old friend!A built Cosworth YB, twin Scroll Borg Warner, Maxxecu Sport ECU running fly-by-wire.Attention to detail everywhere, an epic, epic build. We made some mapping adjustments, and ended up with 375whp. We also wired his Corsa power steering module to the ECU. This allows the power steering to get lighter/heavier based on wheel speed and engine rpm. In a behaviour that mimics an OEM car. K20 Powered MaxxECU Race Yaris!I don't think I ever shared Paul's Yaris - not sure why as it's pretty epic!Paul is pretty handy with the spanners, and decided that he'd quite fancy bolting in an FN2 K20 engine. As is the way!Of course, this is not straightforward. Custom engine mounts, custom radiator, custom pipework, custom driveshafts and so on.I've known Paul now for a good many years. Probably more than 20 years I'd guess, from the good old 'Forum' days! Paul is up in Essex, but popped me a message to see if I'd be interested in popping on a MaxxECU Race. Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB the challenge! The Maxxecu / Maxxtuning AB Race ECU on this utilises the OEM FN2 throttle body, and the Yaris throttle pedal. We've got knock control and obviously control as you should of the K20 camshafts and such. We've used the MaxxECU flexibility to pick up the vehicle speed from the gearbox sensor, calibrate the signal correctly, and output the relevant signal to the Yaris Speedometer, along with some other trick bits and pieces. Paul spends an unhealthy amount of time at the Nurburgring in his Swift. Often making it into Misha videos and such.
