Honda Civic Type-R Turbo EP3, Installation & Mapping

A Honda Civic, that turned up at the workshop last year. The guys over at AutoEvolutions, had done a conversion on an EP3, but didn’t want to touch the wiring or the mapping.

After a good consultation with the customer, about his needs and requirements we decided to go with Hondata. There are many options available to us obviously, but the Hondata has always been the best, and most cost effective choice for us at PVE. Especially when it comes to the K20A2. We initially started the job, by moving the battery into the boot for the customer, this allowed for us to sort a better air filter an induction pipe. We got our friends at JEK Fabrications to hook us up with the induction pipe, after a few little drawings!

We then moved on to a few small wiring jobs, that will allow us to run ‘boost-by-gear’. Essentially the main wiring harness can remain pretty much as it it, it just needs a few mods to make the turbocharged application work better. The standard ignition system is well up to the job for instance. No point in spending money where it’s not required. A re-specification of spark plugs was in order though.

Once all the wiring was done, and the new air filter fitted, it was time to take it out on the road and get some live mapping done. We completed the job last year, after a few hours mapping in each cam position. A recent dyno trip proved 320bhp at 8psi. There is more to come, which we are planning on getting organised soon, watch this space!
